BLOG: AGM 2017 - The Future is Bright!

Last week on a fantastic summers evening I attended my first AGM at CWRC.  Celebrating 35 years, it was a heart-warming event filled with history and memories of how the centre has supported the Cambridge community over the years. Ranging from woodwork classes and computer support to psychology courses and a crèche, there is nothing the centre has not done!

The meeting was a huge success filled with both familiar faces and new visitors to the centre. Over the last few years CWRC has faced some obstacles. Cuts to funding and the hunt for new premises have presented challenges for the charity, however these challenges did not bear burden on the evening. The atmosphere was one of love and optimism and although I have only volunteered for just two months at the centre, I was overwhelmed by the positivity and commitment of all the women there.

The theme of the meeting was one of gratitude. Thanks were awarded to individuals who have given immeasurably to the centre, to volunteers for their on-going support and to the staff at CWRC who keep the show running. The centre also welcomed a new CEO, Stef Martinsen-Barker, embracing an exciting new period of change as the centre moves forward with their relocation and plans for future growth.

Recently I have been asking women who use the centre to write down why they love CWRC. The response has confirmed how the centre continues to impact women’s lives, confirming the importance of community centres like CWRC in Cambridge. The AGM proved this sentiment and for all the staff and those involved it is clear that CWRC’s future is bright!
