CWRC’s Free Shop offers pre-loved women’s clothes, shoes, new toiletries, books, period products, condoms, and small homeware items, all completely free.
It’s open to any woman, with priority given to women already accessing CWRC’s services. Whether you’re going through a tough time, need something for a job interview, or just enjoy a browse, everyone’s welcome.
Beyond the practical help, the Free Shop exists to reduce textile waste and build a circular economy.
Donations of items to the Free Shop
Textile waste is a global emergency. Vast quantities of fast fashion are exported from the UK to countries like Ghana, where they cause serious environmental and economic damage.
We understand why people want to donate clothes, but the sheer volume is a real problem for free/charity shops. If we’re not selective, we become overwhelmed with items we don’t have space to store and that aren’t wanted by the women who use our free shop.
That’s why we can only accept a small amount of donations at a time, of select items, and can’t take multiple bin liners of clothing. When we do, it becomes something we have to dispose of ourselves, and after sitting in our cupboard for a few months, it ends up in the global textile waste stream regardless.
