It is with great sadness that we announce that the Peterborough branch of the Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre (CWRC) closed permanently on the 27th March 2026/
CWRC took over from the Peterborough Women’s Centre in 2013, and it was a privilege to stand alongside women in this community. Reaching the decision to close was extremely difficult. It is another consequence of a lack of secure and sustainable funding for women’s services.
While the value of women’s services is widely recognised, this recognition is not matched by the core funding needed to provide quality gendered support. Women’s centres are proven to reduce offending, health inequalities, social care involvement and statutory homelessness, but social return requires investment.
CWRC would welcome the opportunity to hand over the reins to other women’s organisations in Peterborough. The lease on our building is available from 1st April 2026 and the landlord is supportive of grassroots organisations. We would be delighted to see a Women’s Centre continue in Peterborough.
